In addition to the acres from the government and the skin color not given credit for his rags to riches success, you might consider mentioning the many thousands of chicken dinners cooked–for free–by the invisible Mrs. Knott. And it sounds like she might have provided many thousands of hours of unpaid and uncredited labor on his various farm plots as well, and probably a lot of unpaid management work for his organization.
